We’re Sleeping Overnight in the Park in Scotland this Weekend – Help us Help the Homeless!

Forth Capital are committed to supporting the registered charity Social Bite, including their upcoming 2018 Sleep in the Park campaign. This Saturday, 8 December, three members from our Geneva team will brave a cold Scottish night and sleep outside in Edinburgh, along with 10,000 others across Scotland.

What is Social Bite?

Social Bite charity is a chain of cafés that exist to end homelessness in Scotland, for good. Their cafés and restaurants employ people who have experienced homelessness, in addition to distributing over 100,000 free meals each year. On the back of the success of the 2017 Sleep in the Park campaign, they built the Social Bite Village in Edinburgh to break the cycle of homelessness for its residents – a ground breaking innovation that is already being replicated in other cities.

What is this ‘Sleep in the Park’?

Last year, 8000 people joined the movement by sleeping out under the stars beneath Edinburgh’s Castle, braving minus temperatures and together, taking a stance by raising funds and their voices to fuel change in Scotland. Using this momentum, Social Bite is currently housing 44 people every month through their pioneering Housing First Program.

How can we help?

This intervention, which has been used to effectively end homelessness in Finland, immediately houses the most vulnerable people while providing the wrap around support required to meet their additional needs; a safe place to call home, with the resources required to enable people to retain their tenancies. Hardly rocket science, but this approach has seen unprecedented successes in a number of countries, both large and small. There has never been a housing policy backed by a greater volume of high-quality international evidence.

With the support of Forth Capital, Social Bite hopes this year’s event can move them closer to their target of helping 1000 people escape homelessness. Trudi, Tom and Melody would appreciate your help in smashing their fundraising target of £3000. You can donate to their campaign here CLICK HERE TO DONATE, with all profits from the event going to the mission of ending homelessness in Scotland. Andrew Bailie, Corporate Engagement Manager, had this to say :

“We are enormously grateful for Forth Capital’s support and look forward to welcoming their team to our capital city. Social Bite has developed a clear roadmap to radically and rapidly reduce the levels of homelessness in Scotland. Sleep in the Park is a critical chance to drive the next phase of our impact and shift the cultural dial on this solvable social issue. It is incredible to have people travelling from Switzerland to support our mission; we can only hope that they are looking forward to the night as much as we are!”

Thank you all for your support.
